Ordes thanked for community work

Friday, August 6, 2010

To the Editor:

Seldom today do people take the time to say thank you. We would like to extend our thanks to the Orde family, who have lived in this town, provided many jobs and supported it for many, many years.

There is David Orde, who owns Lull Farm. We have seen him in the fields at 6 a.m. until well past 7 p.m. He always has a smile a kind word to say and is always ready to help. He farms more than 200 acres in town, which keeps land out of the hands of developers. He has a free petting zoo for anyone who wants to go. He is always willing to give backyard farmers produce to feed their animals, or chickens that are free ranging.

Doug Orde runs Hollis Construction and is always helping the town. Over the years, he has donated material and labor to the schools for sports fields and tracks. During the ice storm a few years ago, he had all his equipment on the roads to help the town instead of using it for commercial accounts. He provided generators to the town buildings without hesitation and never even asked for a thank you. He gave mulch to any Hollis resident who wanted to have a garden.

Al Orde has taken our children to and from school for years.

We have lived in Hollis for more than 30 years, and this family shows us what an old New Hampshire family should be. My husband and I want to say thank you for all they do to keep Hollis the kind of town we want to live in.

JANICE DURGEE
