Hollis plastic surgeon publishes textbook

Friday, October 30, 2009

Dr. Mark Constantian, a Hollis resident with a private practice in Nashua, is the author of a two-volume, 1,500-page surgical textbook on rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) recently published by Quality Medical Publishing in St. Louis. Constantian wrote the entire text, which has more than 6,000 illustrations and four accompanying videos.

“Rhinoplasty is such difficult surgery, and so unlike other surgical operations, that many excellent surgeons still struggle with it. Because nasal surgery has been the teaching focus of my practice for so many years, it seemed worthwhile to put my experience down.”

This textbook is the product of work done “three days a week for three years,” he said. “It was a lot of work, but if the book saves patients and their surgeons from struggling with bad results, it will have served its purpose.”

The royalties will be donated to various charities.

Serving Nashua for 31 years, Dr. Constantian was only the second private practice plastic surgeon in the state when he arrived in 1978. He performs reconstructive and cosmetic nasal surgery, and a range of plastic surgery, including facial, breast, and hand surgery.

Dr. Constantian has been mentioned in The New York Times and Ladies Home Journal’s More Magazine as one of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in the country. He has also been listed yearly since 2001 in Castle Connolly’s Guide to America’s Top Doctors.

He is past president of the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, and The Rhinoplasty Society, an international group. He is the author of 60 published papers and 24 book chapters and has previously held faculty appointments at Harvard and Dartmouth medical schools. He and his wife, Charlotte, live in Hollis.
