Hollis/Brookline students rally around academic success

HOLLIS – Studying and getting good grades is a team endeavor, and this week students, teachers and administrators at Hollis/Brookline High School celebrated their academic accomplishments during the annual Academic Pep Rally.

During the rally, individual students were singled out for superior performances in athletics, music, scholarship and citizenship.

The event also highlighted the school’s recent listing – for the third straight year – to U.S. News and World Report’s annual list of the country’s top high schools.

Hollis/Brookline High School was named a Silver Medal High School for the third year.

In New Hampshire, eight schools made the list: three received Silver Medals and five were awarded Bronze Medals.

During the Hollis/Brookline High School assembly, seniors with perfect SAT scores were singled out. They are Kristopher Brown, mathematics; Morgane Ciot-Fontaine, critical reading; Benjamin Garcia, mathematics; Steven Griffin, writing; Zacory Kobylarz, mathematics and critical reading; Leigh Kowalski, mathematics (twice); Tamara Liu, writing; Jonathan Michaels, mathematics; Rouslan Nabioullin, mathematics; Katrina Nill, writing; Kendall Nicosia-Rusin, writing; Joseph Perricone, mathematics (twice); Kyle Pucci, mathematics; Caroline Quaglieri, writing; Kayleigh Ryherd, writing; and Zifan Yang, mathematics (twice) and writing.

Students were also singled out for getting perfect SAT scores on subject tests and perfect scores on advanced placement tests in U.S. history, English language/ composition, chemistry, French, calculus AB, calculus BC, biology, statistics and computer science.

The assembly also honored National Merit scholars and semifinalists and scholars in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.

In addition, honors went to boys and girls soccer players, the varsity volleyball team, students selected for the All New England Band Festival and those accepted into the New Hampshire Jazz All State Honors Jazz Band.

Other awards included DAR Good Citizen of the Year, 2010 Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership, Coca-Cola Scholarship semifinalist and perfect score on ACT English.
