Board meeting to be televised
Friday, August 27, 2010
Starting Tuesday , the Brookline School Board plans to meet at Town Hall, a change of venue that will allow the meeting to be televised.
The board, which had been meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Captain Samuel Douglass Academy, decided to make the move to enable the community to watch and become involved in school issues.
The monthly meeting will continue to begin at 6 p.m.
Captain Samuel Douglass Academy is not equipped with the technology needed to televise the meetings which were held in the school library.
“I’m excited about reaching more people and concerned about how we are going to fit,” said School Board Vice Chairwoman Beth Lukovits.
The Town Hall meeting room is smaller than the school library, and Lukovits said she’s concerned that there won’t be enough room at the table for board members and school district administrators, and in the audience for members of the public, particularly when an issue draws strong public response.
Selectmen’s meetings are televised weekly as are other public meetings held at the Town Hall.
