A culinary success at Hollis Old Home Days

Twenty enthusiastic bakers participated in the Hollis Woman’s Club apple pie bake off at the Hollis Old Home Days celebration on Saturday, Sept. 15.

The overall winner was Merilee Jopson, of Hollis, who said one of the secrets to her success is Cortland apples.

The Watson family, also of Hollis, dominated in overall wins with mom, Amy, taking a third in the adult division, while her daughter, Anna, took first place in the children’s division and brother, Andrew, placed third.

“Our kitchen was bustling at 5 a.m. this morning in preparation for this bake off,” Amy said.

The list of winners by division includes:

Adults:

First place – Merilee Jopson.

Second Place (tie) – Jenny Greenwood, of Mason; and Andrew Rasmussen.

Third Place (tie) – Donna Berna and Amy Watson.

Teens:

First Place – Katie Dougherty.

Second Place – Julie Turner of Nashua.

Children:

First Place – Anna Watson.

Second Place – Cassie Pyle.

Third Place (tie) – Mikayla Murrin and Andrew Watson.
