Friday, June 28, 2013

FITCHBURG, MA – Fourth graders at Applewild School in Fitchburg, Mass., presented their inventions recently to family members at the annual Invention Convention.

Maura Lyons’s science students in fourth grade learned about the patent process and were tasked with developing a product that serves a need for others.

The assignment required that students utilize a number of the school’s core competencies, including thinking critically, creating and persevering.

Grace Lassila, of Hollis, invented the Slipease, which she describes as “cushioned socks with rubber bottoms that prevent dogs from slipping on hardwood floors.”

For her invention, Grace received an official Applewild Patent.
