Haitian children’s choir to perform in Hollis

Friday, August 15, 2014

HOLLIS – Sixteen girls and boys from Haiti, singing and dancing in a high-energy, meaningful concert, will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Faith Baptist Church, 43 Wheeler Road.

The tour includes presentations in New England, New York and New Jersey, as well as concerts in their own country when they return.

The vision for Hope Haitian Choir has its roots in the adoption of a Haitian baby by founders Barb and Chuck House. After several years of involvement in projects connected with the orphanage in Port-au-Prince, the first choir was organized in 2012.

Barb House, a music teacher and performer, directs the choir, writing and choreographing many of the songs.

Goals for the choir include developing young leaders who will return to their people better equipped to make a productive impact and to raise support for a key project in Haiti. This tour is focused on building a church and school on land recently purchased in the village of Lamarre, through which they hope to bring an international sponsorship program to this impoverished region.

There is no admission charge, although a love offering will be taken.
