Boys Basketball
DEC. 28: THORTON 52, HOLLIS/BROOKLINE 45
Trailing 27-18 at halftime, the Cavaliers rallied in the third quarter to make it close but Thorton, off to a 6-0 start in Maine, closed it out in the fourth quarter.
Thorton’s 6-foot-6 standout forward Andrew Shaw led the winners with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Tomas Littlefield added 14 for the winners and James Ek had 12. Brian Liamos and Dan Baerthlein led a balanced Hollis/Brookline attack with 10 points each. Miles Tobin added nine and Matt Haight had eight for the Cavaliers.
Girls Basketball
DEC. 26: H/B 56, MEMORIAL 54
The Cavaliers rallied from 12 points down at halftime to pull out a two-point win over the Crusaders in the first day of action at the Queen City Invitational at Manchester Central.
Sultana Svirk had a game-high 20 points while Kelly Morgan scored 15 points, including two 3-pointers. Kelsey Berry also had two 3s and added 10 points for H/B and Katie Stopera had five points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
DEC. 27: TRINITY 46, H/B 42
The Cavaliers had three players score in double figures, but it wasn’t enough against the Pioneers in second-day action at the Queen City Invitational at Central. Sultana Svirk led the way for H
B, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Julia Stopera added 11 points and eight rebounds while McHale Perkins had five points and six boards.
Kelly Morgan also had 10 points, including two 3s, for the Cavs.
DEC. 28: H/B 66, GOFFSTOWN 47
The Cavaliers finished play at the Queen City Invitational with a win over the Grizzlies, giving them two wins at the tournament at Manchester Central. Jill Gillis led H/B with 12 points, eight of which came from the free throw line. Katie Stopera added 11 points and Sam Zorn had 10 markers as the Cavs jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter. McHale Perkins added nine points for H/B, which resumes the Class I regular season on Jan. 5 when it hosts Milford at 6:30 p.m.
