JAN. 26

BOYS BASKETBALL: SOU-HEGAN 61, H/B 44

Devin Gilligan had 15 points and Ryan Redmond 10 as the visiting Sabers, who led 29-18 at the half, raised their record to 6-3. Trevor Nierendorf led the Cavs, who fell to 3-6, with 17 points while Miles Tobin added 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: SOU-HEGAN 64, H/B 61

In a game that went back and forth throughout the fourth quarter, Souhegan sophomore Jane White put the Sabers ahead for good with a basket with 1:37 left, then made two clutch free throw with eight seconds left.

Jackie Jones had 11 of her 16 points in second half Souhegan, who also got 16 points from junior guard Christan Wojtas. White was also in double figures with 12 for the Sabers (8-1).

Hollis/Brookline (8-1), which suffered its first loss of the season, had four players in double figures led by sophomore guard Katie Stopera (16 points). Kelly Morgan added 14 for the Cavs, while Julia Stopera and Sultana Svirk had 13 each.

JAN. 25

HOCKEY: H/B 5, CON-VAL 2

The Cavaliers got goals from five different players and evened their record at 3-3-1. Goal scorers for the winners were Griffin Brown, Jake Kobylarz, Tom Kyrias, Willie Holmes and Zach Rotkiweicz. Matt Firmani and Connor Venuti had a pair of assists for the Cavs, with single assists from Brown, Rotkiweicz and Lauren Field. Jake Hanhl made 16 saves in net for H/B.

JAN. 23

WRESTLING: CAVS SWEEP QUAD-MEET

Zach McPherson (103 pounds) and Forrest Coon-Roberts (171) picked up two pinning wins each as Hollis/Brookline wrestled to a clean sweep of the competition at St. Thomas in Dover.

The Cavaliers beat St. Thomas (54-30), White Mountains (48-16) and Campbell (60-24). H/B’s Brian Litchfield (145) also wrestled Sanborn’s lone wrestler, Jonathan Scheidegger, and pulled out a win for the Cavs with an 8-5 decision.

HOCKEY: H/B 3, JOHN STARK 3

Hollis/Brookline rallied to manage a tie at John Stark. Griffin Brown opened the Cavs’ comeback with a goal assisted by Connor Venuti. Matt Firmani and Venuti each scored off assists by Zach Rotkiewicz.

JAN. 22

GIRLS BASKETBALL: H/B 62, BEDFORD 55

The unbeaten Cavaliers (8-0) got 15 points from Kelly Morgan and 12 from Katie Stopera as they handed the Bulldogs (2-7) their sixth straight loss in Class I play in Hollis. Sultana Svirk and Kelsey Berry added nine and eight points respectively with six of Berry’s coming from her two 3-pointers.

BOYS BASKETBALL: BED-FORD 48, H/B 34

Trevor Nierendorf scored a team-high 14 points but it wasn’t enough as the Cavaliers lost a strong Bulldogs squad (7-1) in Bedford.

Ryan McGrath added nine points in the loss for the Cavaliers, now 3-5.

JAN. 21

ALPINE SKIING: CAVS TAKE THIRD

Souhegan High School and Hollis/Brookline High School finished second and third, respectively, in both ends of a ski meet at Crotched Mountain.

Derryfield captured first in both sides.

Locals finishing in the top 15 for the boys were: Milford’s Ben Lambert (second); Souhegan’s Tucker Brown (fourth), Scott Doyle (sixth), Alexander Kempf (10th) and Joe Cici (14th); and the Hollis/Brookline duo of Evan Cooke (seventh) and Pat Doyle (12th).

Locals finishing in the top 15 for the girls were: Souhegan’s Evelyn French (second), Tori Brooks (fifth), AJ Newell (sixth), Mary Leger (ninth) and Emily Ballentine (10th); and Hollis/Brookline’s Haley Farwell (11th).

JAN. 20

WRESTLING: H/B 64, BOW 16

The unbeaten Cavaliers (7-0) had little trouble with Bow as they won seven of their matches via pin.

Ryan Ahlquist (119 pounds), Zach Jennings (125), Jake McPherson (130), Taylor Landry (152), Nate Ashe (160), Bryan Jennings (215) and Zach Migneault (285) each won via pinfall while Brian Litchfield (145) and Zach McPherson (103) each won via technical fall.

JAN. 19

BOYS BASKETBALL: H/B 48, ST. THOMAS 45

St. Thomas Aquinas had not one but two chances to tie the game up with seconds left in regulation in a 48-45 loss to Hollis/Brookline High School on Tuesday night.

The Saints missed on their first 3-point attempt with 5 seconds remaining and then on the follow-up off a long rebound that was on line but fell short at the buzzer.

Dan Baerthlien scored a team-high 15 points for the Cavaliers (3-4), while Bryan Landry chipped in with nine of his own in the win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: H/B 73, ST. THOMAS 56

Julia Stopera posted a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, as the Cavaliers cruised to a 17-point win over the Saints.

Sultana Svirk led the Cavs with 14 points, while also hitting the glass hard with nine rebounds of her own in the win. Kelly Morgan and Kelsey Berry also had solid days from the floor, chipping in with 11 and nine points, respectively.
