Kim’s Concert

Friday, August 12, 2011

If ever there was a worthwhile endeavor, it is Sunday’s fundraising Kim’s Concert at Alpine Grove in Hollis that will raise money for the Kimberly L. Cates Memorial Scholarship Fund.

It runs from 12:30-8 p.m. and features a chicken barbecue dinner, raffles, a silent auction and entertainment.

Named for Mont Vernon’s Kim Cates, murdered nearly two years ago, it will raise money for the scholarship fund that has already distributed $12,000 to graduating high school seniors from Amherst and Mont Vernon. The intent of the scholarships is to inspire young people who want to study medicine.

That is because her work as a nurse was one of Kimberly Cates’ defining characteristics.

By attending the fundraiser, people send two messages:

• That we care about, and want to help, kids who, by pursuing medical careers, will help others.

• That the memory of Kim Cates will live on long after those who murdered her are forgotten.

So we hope folks will throng to Alpine Grove on Sunday.

You’ll have fun, you’ll serve a good cause, and you’ll help to continue the caring work of a kind and generous woman by helping others continue the career she loved.
