Help them to help others

Friday, August 19, 2011

Once again the Brookline Lions Club, along with students from Hollis/Brookline Cooperative High School, is collecting school supplies for those who need them.

It’s a great project, it runs through Aug. 31, and you can help by donating items, including:

Large binders, white computer paper, notebook paper, folders, flash drives, calculators, and any other supplies kids use in school today.

It should come as no surprise to any of us, especially in this day and age, that there are people in our community who can’t afford everything that is needed to do well in school. That’s where the Lions and the high school students – and you, of course – come into the picture.

There are collection boxes at the Post Office, Town Hall, the library, Caryn’s Sunoco, Stateline Convenience, Chrysanthi’s, Copper Kettle Balkery, and the Front End Shop. You can drop off anything you can spare at one of those sites and receive, we suspect, a nice “Thank you.”

You can also contact any member of the Lions Club, or call Terri at 672-2322, Val at 673-5142, or Vicki at 673-1660.

The Lions, the students and you will be making an important contribution to the community.

Speaking of helping others, we’re happy to see that Hollis’ David Gilmour has been elected to the board of St. Joseph Community Services, one of five people recently elected.

He and the others will be helping to oversee the Meals on Wheels program, which is a valuable asset to all of our communities.

Gilmour is one of those people who is always available, it seems, to help a worthy cause and he’s a great addition to the board.

But here again, you can help, too. Meals on Wheels is always looking for volunteers or, if you haven’t the time, a donation.

For more information, go to www.mealsonwheelsnh.org, or you could just mail a check to St. Joseph Community Services, PO Box 910, Merrimack, NH 03054.

Two worthy causes, two ways you can help your community.
