Some dates to remember
Friday, August 26, 2011
You probably know that Hollis Old Home Days nears, but we hope you’ve got it marked on your calendars.
This is a truly fun time and it even includes a parade, set for Sept. 17.
There’s a bit of extra fun, too, thanks to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua which has invited all Hollis residents with tails (and you know who you are) to walk in the parade from Hollis/Brookline High School to the Lawrence Barn field.
Are you a dog or a cat? Come on a march. Or perhaps you just know a dog or a cat. Invite them to march.
Llamas, too, even cows, if one can convince a cow to do something other than ... what, exactly, is it that cows do? Well, no matter, they’re invited to march.
Senior citizens should also mark Sept. 17: that’s the date of the senior barbecue at Nichols Field between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. You need to RSVP to Thelma Pollard at 889-6369.
We’re also looking forward to the 13th annual Bridges and Connections International Sculpture Symposium at the Andres Institute of Art in Brookline, from Sept. 11-Oct. 2, with a grand opening Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. at Brookline Town Hall where the public can welcome the artists to New Hampshire.
The purpose of the symposium is to get artists from around the world to inspire one another and collaborate, and they’ll be doing it, again, in tiny Brookline, N.H. We love that.
Ever since John Weidman founded Andres Institute of Art, Brookline has been on the art world’s map and this symposium is another example of how a small town filled with clever and creative people can have a wide impact.
Think of it: Sculptors are coming from England, Egypt, Chile and even (dare we to dream?) Ohio, and what they will do at Andres is open to you.
“We welcome everyone to come watch art being made ... and to meet the artists at special events,” said Weidman.
Imagine talking to a sculptor from Egypt about his work and all you have to do is drive down the road.
So, yes, some good things to mark upon your calendar.
