Litter letter inspires others to act
Friday, January 27, 2012
To the Editor:
I recently read a letter from Anita Boylan about her disappointment with litter in Hollis and, I must admit, I felt a little embarrassed for my beloved town.
I wanted to let Anita know that there are many people in Hollis, myself included, who feel exactly as she does and make efforts on a continual basis to do something about it.
I was thankful to read that Anita has chosen to do something too, instead of just complaining. I know from experience that this kind of active example inspires others – and also makes friends!
For me, whenever I’m walking my dog, or even when driving my car, I always have a couple of plastic shopping bags with which to pick up litter. I see and know of many others that do the same thing in their neighborhoods and around town. Hollis also has bi-annual clean-ups, coordinated by the Conservation Commission, that are organized at the high school.
So, Anita, I hope you feel better knowing this. There is litter in the best of towns, which I believe Hollis is one.
What sets a town apart are the people who live there and care. And there a plenty of people like that in Hollis.
Welcome to Hollis, Anita.
