Hudson bridge jumper is in stable condition
Tuesday, January 31, 2012
HUDSON - A man who jumped off the Sagamore Bridge on Saturday morning was in stable condition at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in the late afternoon, according to a hospital nursing supervisor.
Fire Department Captain Scott Tice said a passerby called the fire service at 10:45 a.m. to report the incident.
Firefighters and an ambulance arrived on the scene as the man, who was fully clothed, was getting out of the water, and transported him to the downtown medical facility.
“We got there and saw him on the shore and helped him up the bank,” Tice said, describing the jumper as a 50-year-old man who does not live in town.
The captain said initially the Nashua Dive Team was called to assist, but the request was cancelled after firefighters reached the scene.
Because of federal privacy laws, the fire department and the hospital declined to provide more details, including the man’s name and address.
This wasn’t the first time in recent months that someone has jumped from the bridge, moreover.
In October, Tice said, a person drowned after jumping from the Sagamore Bridge, located in the south end of town, not far from Wal-Mart.
