Hollis artist showing in Mass.
Friday, February 3, 2012
Hollis resident and artist Albine Vermot-Gaud is inviting the public to her reception on Saturday, Feb. 11, from noon-2 p.m., at the Lawrence Library in Pepperell, Mass., where her exhibit, Places of the Heart, will be on display Feb. 10-March 10.
It is a theme particularly appropriate for February, month of the heart, when we focus on the emotional heart and celebrate love on Valentine’s Day. It is also serves as an illustration of the words: “At the end of your soul is the tip of your brush.”
In an eclectic mix of work done over the past 10 years, it is a retrospective of beloved places which captured her heart inspiring many colorful and imaginative paintings. Arranged in several groupings, they are representative of major experiences in her life journey: “Belle France” is a return to her native country where she grew up; “In Italia” a visit to the land of her ancestors, with Tuscan landscapes and the cypresses she loves to paint; “Out of Africa” is remembrance of a trip to Kenya and South Africa with its unique scenery and stunning sunsets. In “Home Sweet Home,” we are back to New England with more traditional still life paintings and local landscapes. “To Infinity” rounds up the exhibit to showcase recent work done in a more contemporary style and universal in their nature. Neither a realist nor an impressionist and always experimenting with different styles and media, Vermot-Gaud’s work reflects her passion for brilliant colors and painterly quality rather than the realistic values of the subject.
In an effort to contribute to Love your Library Month, she will make available a large selection of affordable artwork, giclees and her own handcrafted Valentine’s cards.
Light refreshments to the sounds of piano player Abigail Buetler. Sign up for an art door prize.
The Lawrence Library is located at 15 Main St., Pepperell, Mass. Reception in the gallery (second floor). For more information, call Vermot-Gaud at 589-2486.
