Cavs drop two of three
The Hollis Cavaliers Squirt 1 team dropped two close games before picking up a win last weekend. In Valley League Youth hockey action, the Cavaliers lost 5-4 to the Arlington Squirt Team. The Cavs were up 4-2 with about three minutes to go when Arlington stormed back scoring two quick goals and then put the winner in with four seconds left to defeat the Cavs. Goals were scored by Brandon Hugh, Austin Ciszek, TJ Vitullo and Isaac Rogers.
In their second game, the Cavs lost 6-5 to the AGAWAM Squirt team. The Cavs were down 6-2 at the start of the third period but never gave up. Cavs defensemen Sean Kelly, Chris Sullivan and Anil Rao and goalie Ben Goolsby shut down the AGAWAM offense in the third period. While the Cavs front lines of Isaac Rogers/Brandon Hugh/Austin Ciszek and TJ Vitullo/David Wang/Max Sears cranked things up, netting three goals in the final period but coming up a little short. Cavs goals were scored by Isaac Rogers (three) and TJ Vitullo (two).
The Cavaliers came up with a 4-1 win over the Groton Squirt Team, lead by an exceptional performance between the pipes by goalie Ben Goolsby. The Cavs executed as a team at both ends of the ice, with strong forechecking and excellent movement of the puck out of the defensive zone. The Cavs initially trailed 1-0, but with just 37 seconds remaining in the first period, TJ Vitullo tied it up on a nice wrap-around. Chris Sullivan tallied the next Cavs goal with aggressive play in front of the Groton net, knocking in a rebound. The Cavs third tally was a beautifully executed one-timer by Austin Ciszek off a faceoff from Isaac Rogers. Rogers added the Cavs final goal, stealing the puck in the neutral zone and charging in for the score. Cavs forwards David Wang, Brandon Hughes and Parker Mabbett played extremely well in the offensive zone, while Max Sears, Sean Kelly, Anil Rao and James Gillis turned in strong defensive performances for the Cavs.
