Junior Cavs win title
The Hollis/Brookline Junior Cavaliers junior high varsity team won its second consecutive GSFL Championship. H/B avenged its only loss of the season (9-1) by routing the undefeated John Stark Generals 20-0. The confident Generals had only given up 46 points in nine games, yet H/B scored three touchdowns during the championship, and shut out John Stark’s offense with one of the best defensive games played all season.
Kayne Robert, Cole Shebak and Brendan O’Connor lead the day with a cyclone of tackles and sacks. John Stark could only put together a few good drives for a few first downs against H/B’s defense behind the play of Harry McClellan, Mikey Buxbaum, Wyatt Farwell, Ryan Walsh, Will Petersen, Cody Snow and Brian McCoy.
The Jr. Cavaliers had three interceptions on the day by Brinton MacDonald, Mikey Buxbaum and Wyatt Farwell, returning then for 82 yards and closing up shop on the Generals’ pass plays.
The first TD of the game was a 21-yard pass from rookie QB James Santos, who finished with a season total of 654 yards on 31 completions. Ryan Walsh made the catch in the end zone and continued to set the tone for H/B’s receiving dominance. Wyatt Farwell smashed his way through three defenders after a 25-yard catch for the second TD. Santos held onto it for a quarterback keeper to get the 2-point conversion, and Caleb Lomme, a leading rusher on the team, scored the final blow, making the score 20-0.
