BOYS BASKETBALL

Dec. 27: Nashua South 65, HB 34

Anthony Muccioli scored 17 points to lead the Panthers, as 12 of the 13 players on the South roster recorded points in the Chick-fil-A Tournament. Jack Preston added nine points and Michael Dunham added seven for South, which led 16-5 after the first quarter.

Tim Rencken had eight points to lead the Cavaliers, who also got seven points from James Wilson.

Dec. 28: HB 56, Campbell 45

The Cavaliers pulled away late, turning a four-point early fourth quarter lead into an 11-point win.

P.J. Flaum led HB with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while James Wilson (11 points) and Mike Chase (10) were also in double figures.

Campbell got 10 points each from Max Gouveia and Jacob Morgan. The Cougars trailed by eight at halftime, but went on a 14-4 run to take a 33-31 lead with 4:30 left in the third quarter. The Cavs came right back and closed the frame on a 9-2 run.

A free throw by Morgan with 7:29 to play made it 40-36 HB, but the Cavs scored seven of the next eight points, six of which came on 3s by Flaum, to take a 10-point lead.

Dec. 29: HB 66, Souhegan 62

The Cavaliers survived a late run by the Sabers to finish fifth in the tournament. HB led by 11 at the start of the fourth quarter, but a 7-0 run by Souhegan to start the frame made it a 51-47 game with 6:32 to play.

The Cavs were back up by eight with 45 seconds to play, but 3-pointers by James Sheldon and Brandon Len helped the Sabers make it a 63-62 game with 20 seconds left. P.J. Flaum made two free throws for HB, and after Len missed a 3, Mike Chase added another free throw to close out the win.

Flaum and Cam Staplefeld led the Cavs with 14 points each and Chase added 11 markers. Souhegan got a game-high 22 points from Len while Sheldon also had eight points.

Jan. 3: Bedford 63, HB 35

The Cavaliers couldn’t overcome a slow start, falling behind 19-4 in the first quarter. James Wilson led the way with nine points while PJ Flaum had eight, including two 3-pointers. HB (0-3 in Division II) plays host to Oyster River on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dec. 27: Bay View Academy (R.I.) 65, HB 57

Olivia Gillis drained four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 17 points, but the balanced offense of Bay View Academy of Providence, R.I., was too much for the Cavaliers to overcome in their opening round game of the Queen City Tournament in Manchester.

Katie Stopera (two 3-pointers) chipped in with 14 points, while Ellie Flaum (two 3-pointers) added eight in the loss.

Jan. 3: HB 46, Bedford 43

The Cavs got out to an early lead and held on to remained undefeated in Division II (5-0). Olivia Gillis scored 17 points while Katie Stopera added 12 for HB. Jillian Gillis and Kelsey Berry each had six points.

WRESTLING

Jan. 4: HB 45, Merrimack 21

Hollis Brookline wrestling improved to 3-1 on the season with a 45-21 win over Merrimack this evening.

The Cavaliers earned pin victories from Kyle Ducharme (113), Zach McPherson (120), Will Labadie (132), Brandon Rocha (152), Casey Quinn (160), and Zach Migneault (285).

Jake McPherson (138), Forrest Coon-Roberts (170), and Nate Ashe (195) each won matches for the Cavs as well.

HOCKEY

Dec. 29: Nashua South 6, HB 0

The Panthers drubbed Hollis Brookline 6-0 in the semifinal round of the seventh annual Conway Arena High School Hockey Tournament. South led 2-0 after the first period on goals 33 seconds in (David Saucier) and with 11 seconds left (Christian Flavin, first of two goals). The Panthers then enjoyed a penalty-marred second period, outshooting the Cavs 15-1 and grabbing a 5-0 lead on Ossinger’s two goals and one by Jacob Boisvert. Anzel had 14 saves for his first career shutout.

“We just weren’t disciplined and got beaten to the puck,” said 2-2 Cavs coach Bob Field, who got 12 saves from backup netminder Travis Howard. “It’s disappointing.”

Dec. 30: Nashua North 2, HB 1

Nashua North took third place in the tournament with a 2-1 consolation-game win over Hollis Brookline.

The Titans got goals from Zach Taylor and Marc Lavine, Lavine’s goal snapping a 1-1 tie in the third period. Stephen Crocker assisted on Taylor’s goal while Jake Genest had 15 saves in goal.

The Cavs tied the game early in the third on a goal from Honza Havlena while Jake Hahnl and Travis Howard combined for 22 saves.

TRACK

Dec. 28: Cavs run at Dartmouth

The HB girls finished in a tie for seventh with 14 points at a meet at Dartmouth College. The boys team also competed, but did not record a point.

Callie Kern won the long jump with a leap of 15-61⁄2 and Emma Newton came in second in the 600-meter run, finishing in 1:44.63,

Felicia Lombardi took sixth in the 3,000 (11:58.18) while the 4x400 relay team of Lombardi, Newton, Cortney Zack and Mary Martin finished sixth (4:37.09).
