WRESTLING

Jan. 25: Milford 45, HB 21

In a battle of two of the top teams in Division II, the Spartans prevailed against a Cavaliers team missing some key components.

In the match of the night, Hollis Brookline’s Forrest Coon-Roberts used an escape at the end of the third overtime to decision Milford’s Scott Dannewitz 7-6 at 160 pounds.

Another key highlight was Jake McPherson recording his 100th victory with a pin at 138 pounds.

Milford had pin victories from Ruben Carson at 120, Thomas Scannell at 126, Devin Dolliver at 132, Connor Borne at 152, Andrew Myers at 182 and Jordan Gaudette at 220.

Milford also had victory at 170 from Joe Albina and forfeit wins at 113 and heavyweight. Also winning by pin for Hollis Brookline was Nate Ashe at 195. John Lopez had a decision at 113 for the Cavs and teammate Zach Jennings won by decision at 145.

“Hollis Brookline is very well coached and the match was much closer than the score might indicate,” Milford coach Dana Bourassa said. “They might have the best tournament team in Division II.”

Both Milford and Hollis Brookline added victories over Spaulding of Rochester in the three-team meet.

Jan. 28: HB finishes seventh

The Cavaliers came seventh at the Capitol City Classic at Concord High School. Casey Quinn won the 160 weight class with an 11-3 win over Pinkerton’s Tim Parrot. Nate Ashe (195) came in third and Jake McPherson (138) took fourth.

Forrest Coon-Roberts (170) took fifth and Jonathan Lopez (106) was sixth.

SKIING

Jan. 26: HB sweeps at Crotched Mountain

Evan Cooke and Skyler Anderson both took home a first place finish to lead the Cavaliers to a sweep at the tri-meet on Thursday in Bennington.

In both meets, the Cavaliers finished first and were followed by Con-Val and then Pembroke.

In the boys race, Cooke had two sub minute runs, finishing with a combined time of 1:46.25. Teammate Chris Hyde was fourth with a combined time of 2:03.38. Pat Doyle (2:03.73), Jon Tamposi (2:23.51) and Nick Diciccio (2:35.8) also skied well for the Cavaliers.

In the girls race, the Cavaliers had three of the top five finishers. Anderson won with a time of 2:08.08. Teammate Kelly Doyle was third with a time of 2:16.38 while Maddy Cambray was fifth with a combined run time of 2:32.83.

HOCKEY

Jan. 28: HB 5, John Stark 0

Goaltender Jake Hahnl stopped all 18 shots he faced Saturday night as the Hollis Brookline hockey team lifted its record to 8-3 with a win over John Stark.

Honza Havlena had a pair of goals and an assist for the Cavaliers while Dan Ash, Griffin Brown and Jake Kobylarz added one score apiece. Cam Ricard, Tim Birch, Zack Rotkiewicz and Kyle Berman all added assists.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jan. 27: HB 52, Windham 39

Katie Stopera scored a game-high 28 points to lead the unbeaten Cavaliers (10-0) to a big win over a strong Windham (8-3) squad on Friday in Hollis.

Olivia Gillis added 11 points in the win while the trio of Jillian Gillis (six steals), Kellie Messer and Ellie Flaum were outstanding on the defensive side of the ball.

Jan. 31: HB 51, Pelham 44

The Pythons (3-8) gave the unbeaten Cavaliers (11-0) a scare but thanks to senior Katie Stopera, Hollis Brookline was able to escape with a win on Tuesday.

Stopera scored a game-high 24 points in the win while Ellie Flaum had seven points. Kellie Messer led the Cavs on the boards, finishing with 10 rebounds to go along with her four points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jan. 27: HB 46, Windham 33

Tim Renken led the Cavaliers with 10 points as they improve to 3-6. HB scored 30 points in the second half after only scoring 16 in the first two quarters.

Jan. 31: Pelham 65, HB 58

PJ Flaum led HB with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Cavs fell to 5-8. Cam Staplefeld added 10 points while Connor Walsh, James Wilson and Mike Chase each had eight.

TRACK

Jan. 29: One more tune-up

Local track athletes continued preparing for Sunday’s division meets during two sessions Sunday at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

In the boys morning session, Souhegan’s Chris Chinnis and Dennis Elverson and Campbell’s Justin Prindle all qualified in the 55-meter dash. Chinnis placed second in the event while Nashua North’s Zakari Jenkins took fourth. Elverson was fifth and North’s Louis Tarantino was sixth. Chinnis was also third in the long jump.

Prindle was also second in the 300-meter dash with North’s William Goulding third and Elverson sixth.

North was strong in the 3,000 meters as Devin Motivala rook first and Brandon Davis-O’Donnell placed second. Souhegan’s Jake Kittredge was third while teammate Eli Moskowitz was sixth.

Souhegan’s Ben DeForest won the 55-meter hurdles and North’s Andrew Dwyer was fourth.

In the boys high jump Milford’s Jarad Asselin was first and DeForest was second.

North’s Mike Lynch was second in the shot put.

In the girls early session, Souhegan’s Isabella Stuopis won the shot put. Souhegan’s Jade Soucy-Humphreys was sixth in the 300 meters. Teammates Sarah Hurd and Angela Blume were third and fourth in the 600 meters while Milford’s Hannah Ladeau and Miranda Couture were fifth and sixth.

North’s Kayla Farren and Ellie Shuman were second and third in the 1,000 meters with Milford’s Brianna Lippitt sixth.

In the 1,500 meters, Souhegan’s Csilla Vamos was fourth and Milford’s Cassandra Wright was sixth.

Milford’s Rachel White was third in the long jump.

In the girls evening session, Hollis Brookline’s Emma Newton won the 600 meters. The Cavaliers’ Meghan Philpot won the 1,000 meters.
