Submitted photo Thirty-nine Applewild School sixth-graders participated in a hunger banquet at the school to help raise awareness on world hunger. Some students, representing those most unfortunate in the world, sat on the floor and were served a meal of rice. A “middle” group sat in chairs and ate rice and salad. The “lucky” students sat a table and could eat their fill of rice, salad, and stew. The yearly event is held after the school’s Oxfam Fast, held the week before Thanksgiving and is coordinated by teacher Todd Goodwin.

Submitted photo Martha Smith, Doe Wight and Liz Brown take a break from working on wreaths. The Colonial Garden Club of Hollis decorates the town of Hollis each holiday season. Wreaths and more are made by club members, then hung on town buildings and monuments. The Colonial Garden Club of Hollis meets on the first Tuesday of the month at The Lawrence Barn in Hollis. Knowledge and the joys of gardening are shared by club members and various speakers. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 2. New members are always welcome.
