Students Nicholetta Hitt, left, and Liz Purvis are congratulated by Social Studies teachers Barbara McCormick and Debbie Hinrichs. On Jan. 13, 39 middle school students competed in the 2012 annual Geography Bee finals at Amherst Middle School. Purvis, a seventh-grader was the winner of the school-wide Geography Bee. Hitt, a fifth-grader, was the runner-up. Purvis will now take a written qualifying test which will be submitted to the National Geography Society for scoring. If she receives a top score on her exam, she will be invited to attend the New Hampshire state level competition on March 30, in all 50 states. About 100 students will compete at the state level competition.
