Amherst Area Newcomers host social Sept. 13
Monday, September 10, 2012
The annual “Welcome Social” of the Amherst Area Newcomers group will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Amherst Chamber of Commerce building at 69 Route 101A, Amherst. The event will be the start of another year for the long-time group. The event is free to any woman of Amherst and surrounding towns who would like to get to know their neighbors, share information, socialize, sit back, laugh and relax. The Newcomers’ main purpose is social relaxation and growing friendships. They do not fundraise, sell anything or talk politics. They do share information about our towns, so if you are new to the area it is just for you. If you have been around for a while and yearn to learn something new it is also for you. There are married, single, not so single, with children and without, just entering the workforce, and near retirement aged women in the group who just want to get out socialize and learn.
Once a month, the group holds social gatherings. Some are themed gatherings, some are “how to’s” with speakers. There are also smaller sub-groups. Join in any group that interests you every time they meet, or when your schedule allows, or none at all. The current interest groups are walking group, book group, out to lunch, bunco (easy game night), knitting group, crafts group and charity group.
They also host an annual “Breakfast With Santa” morning in early December. The event is open to all children in the community. Participation is optional for members.
Thursday’s Welcome Social is free. Savory and sweet refreshments will be served. If interested in joining for the year membership is $20 (that’s only $1.67 a month). Joining is not necessary for the event. Please R.S.V.P. if possible to firstname.lastname@example.org or for more information visit www.nhnewcomers.com or call Gail at 673-9544.
