Thanks to all who played part in dogs’ return
Thursday, March 11, 2010
To the Editor:
To the many caring citizens of Merrimack who assisted with the search and successful recovery of our lost dog:
We cannot thank you all enough for the assistance each and every person we spoke with provided during our recent search for Harbour, our large black Newfoundland dog, who broke the gate with his sister and took a tour of Merrimack this past week. Thanks to the quick efforts of an attentive Mason Road-area resident and the professional response and follow through of Merrimack patrol officer William Vandersyde, Sonya, our female was recovered quickly on Thursday night, and placed in the capable hands of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford.
Harbour, our much larger and shyer male continued his adventure across town, alone and scared until a very observant North Merrimack resident spotted him shortly before dark Friday evening.
Many residents called with direct observations, others contacted friends in areas that he was traveling through, and other very supportive people directly aided with the search. Each one of those calls and efforts played an important part in tracking his behavior and movements, without which we would not have recognized the opportunity we had when the critical call came in.
Of interest, it was that astute observer’s posting on Facebook that ultimately led to his recovery. Her posting was read by someone that had received a flyer, and she responded with our telephone number. So, some legwork, some luck, some friends and some technology all played a part in this successful outcome.
Harbour is home, sleeping and recovering very happily, a little wiser we hope, but none the worse for his experience … thanks to you!
