Merrimack Rocks, the evening event and grand finale of the Merrimack Fall Festival Business Expo, will take place 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, in the new Roger Duhamel Pavilion at Watson Park in the 400 block of Daniel Webster Highway, across from the fire station.
Merrimack Rocks, presented by ESPN New Hampshire and the Monahan Company, will be an evening of live music, fireworks and tributes celebrating Merrimack and honoring a hometown hero, Marine Cpl. Timothy Gibson. According to MilitaryTimes.com, Gibson was one of 31 U.S. servicemen killed in Iraq when a transport helicopter crashed in a sandstorm.
The Marine was a graduate of Merrimack High School’s Class of 2000. The crash occurred in 2005 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. There will be opportunities on a voluntary basis to donate to the Timothy Mark Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Another highlight of Merrimack Rocks will be the bestowal of a lifetime achievement award to Pete Gagnon, a resident who has for 39 years worked in many capacities as a volunteer for the town of Merrimack. The longtime owner of Willow Pond Nursery has spent countless hours on various committees and has contributed his help to a multitude of town projects and activities.
Festivities, beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding with a fireworks spectacular at 8 p.m., are sure to be memorable. Don’t miss the start of the event when the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdale horses march in from Town Hall. The magnificent horses will stay at Watson Park for an hour of picture taking.
Musical entertainment at Merrimack Rocks will be provided by folk singer Tristan Omand, who will open the event and be followed by classic rock masters, The Shotz.
There will be plenty of food for sale by DW Diner, and The Lindt Chocolate Shop will be giving out free chocolates.
Organizers are thankful for presenting sponsors ESPN New Hampshire and The Monahan Companies. Kudos also go to the gold sponsor Veteran Chimney and to silver sponsors,
including DW Diner, All Basics Stove Shop, Bellavance Beverage, The Motta Family and Dunkin Donuts, The Lint Chocolate Shop at Merrimack Premium Outlets, Silver Chariot Transportation and Lettering Design Company.
