Friday, January 31, 2014

NASHUA – Joseph Preston and his wife, Joni, of Dewey, Ariz., will participate in the 54th annual New Hampshire Lions Multiple District State Convention at the Crowne Plaza Hotel from Friday-Sunday, Jan. 31-Feb. 2.

Preston, who was elected as first vice president of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 96th International Convention in Hamburg, Germany, last July, has been a Lion since 1974. His visit marks his second trip to the state. As an international director, Preston spoke at the 44N District Convention in 1997.

Preston will meet with Lions and Leos leaders, as well as Gov. Maggie Hassan. He will be the keynote speaker at the convention dinner Saturday night.

Other highlights include the election of a candidate to run for international director from New Hampshire. Ed Farrington, of the Milford Lions, is the only announced candidate.

The annual meetings of the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation and Youth Development committees will take place Saturday afternoon, along with the presentation of the MD44 Peace Poster contest winner, Hudson Memorial School student Olivia Horstkotte.

Council Chairman Tom Geno, of Concord, will chair the weekend events. Joining him on the committee are District Govs, Sandra Hurd, of Merrimack, and Jim Robinson, of Plaistow, and Immediate Past District Governor Wayne Auger, of Litchfield.
