Fall foliage contest winners are in

Marie Fortin, of Mason and a Cabinet reader, won first place with her photo captured on a very foggy morning along Abbott Hill Road.

"My wife and I are from Gilford, but due to my company relocating to Manchester, we moved to Weare for the summer to be closer. I passed this Ice House in Goffstown every day on the way to work. I really wanted to get a picture of it, but the colors were never right. But on my last day taking this route before we moved home, the light was just right and I was rewarded for my patience," Swanson said.

Sharon Sernik, Merrimack, recently just moved to N.H. from Florida with her family. "We really enjoyed the fall colors, and took a lot of pictures. This will be our first real winter- ever. We are awaiting the first snowfall with anticipation and some degree of trepidation," she said.

For our 2012 Fall Foliage Photo Contest, 139 Cabinet Press readers submitted 236 photos.

In addition to falling leaves, water reflections, mountain scenes, farms in autumn, apple orchards and waterfalls, we received several photos of mushrooms, some growing along walls, some in gardens and as Ashley Cleveland, of Merrimack, described in her photo, a “Mushroom City.” We even received a photo from a New Hampshire visitor from Pittsburgh, Pa.

After careful consideration – and some oohs and aahs – here are the winners:

First place: Marie Fortin, of Mason, who captured Abbot Hill Road in Mason on a foggy morning.

Second place: Richard Rowe, of Merrimack, for his photo looking south over Profile Lake from the Old Man of the Mountain historic site in Franconia Notch State Park.

Third place: Sandy Dold of Merrimack, who created an orange ring of trees.

Our three winners will receive a gift certificate to Shorty’s Mexican Roadhouse.
