Leonard P. Schrader, Sr.

Leonard P. Schrader, Sr., of Merrimack, died Monday, Oct. 26 2009, at Epsom Healthcare Center, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Schrader was born May 10, 1921, in Fitchburg, Mass., and was the son of Paul and Anna M. (Schmidt) Schrader. He was raised and educated in the Fitchburg area, and lived there most of his life. He was a graduate of Stevens Business College, and had been a resident of Merrimack since 1965.
He was employed prior to retirement as a salesman with Federal Home Insulators, but during his time in Fitchburg he was an expert meat cutter and managed the Schraders Superette Market on Milk Street, which was part of his family’s German sausage and meat-packing business in Fitchburg.
Mr. Schrader was proud of his German heritage, and was a former member of the German Congregational Church of Fitchburg. He was fondly referred to by friends as the “Baron.”
He was predeceased by his son, Leonard P. Jr. and by a stepson, Gary A. Morse.
Members of the family include his wife of 44 years, Helen (Humason) Schrader of Merrimack; a son, Dennis Schrader of Gardner, Mass.; his daughter, Cynthia Gallant of Fall River, Mass.; a brother, Walter Schrader of Fitchburg, Mass; four stepsons, Joseph L. (Skip) Morse of Apex, N.C., Donald C. Morse of Port Deposit, Md., Richard D. Morse of Merrimack and Rodney D. Morse of Nashua. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A private graveside committal of his cremated remains will be held at the Forest Hill Cemetery of Fitchburg, Mass.
