Lester F. Fulling, 90, of Merrimack, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in Nashua following a brief illness.
Lester was born in Clinton, Mass., on Jan. 11, 1919, the son of the late Lester and Theresa (Meyer) Fulling of Nashua. Lester was raised and educated in Nashua, graduating from Nashua High School in 1936. He had been a resident of Merrimack since 1950.
Lester was a veteran of WWII and served as a captain in the Signal Corps in the African, Middle Eastern and European Campaigns. He volunteered for the Army, served his country with distinction and was awarded several medals for his service, including the bronze star. Following the war, Lester married his prewar sweetheart, Catherine Rose Mansfield, who he met at Baboosic Lake in the late 1930s.
Lester was a well known businessman in Nashua, having owned and operated the former Deluxe Radio Sales & Service on East Pearl Street for more than 50 years.
Lester enjoyed an active life and competed during high school on the track team and participated in his early years in an organized Nashua hockey league. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends at his “camp” on Highland Lake in Stoddard.
Lester will be remembered for his very warm presence, easy going outlook and subtle sense of humor.
Following the death of his beloved wife Rose in 1994, Lester was blessed by the companionship of Carol Quigley of Merrimack, who contributed to Lester’s very happy and rewarding final 15 years. Carol has been considered a member of the family and Lester’s children will be forever grateful for her wonderful relationship with “Dad”.
Lester is survived by his loving children and their families; Thomas and Audrey Fulling of Oakland, Maine; Leslie and Scott Putnam of Hollis; Paul and Beverly Fulling of Merrimack; Brian and Louise Fulling of Bedford; Mary Ellen and Patrick Bishop of Merrimack; Mark and Lisa Fulling of Merrimack; Robert Fulling of Merrimack; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Lester is also survived by his sister, Ruth Hallett, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
