High School Sports: Star performances for many Merrimack players

JAN. 22
GIRLS BASKETBALL: DOVER 38, MERRIMACK 32
Rachael Carter scored a game-high 11 points and Kate Cole added nine, but it wasn’t enough in a six-point home loss to Dover.
Ashley Darling had a solid game in defeat with six points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Tomahawks.
BOYS BASKETBALL: MERRIMACK 65, DOVER 46
Freshman Dimitri Floras scored a game-high 19 points and sophomore Tyler Gendron scored all 12 of his points in the second-half to lead the unbeaten Tomahawks (6-0) to an impressive win over the Green Wave (4-2) in Dover.
Travis Maser added 11 points while Anthony Floras added eight points and played an outstanding game on defense, holding Dover’s Alex Burt (who scored 30 points against the ’Hawks earlier this year) to just five points.
WRESTLING: MERRI-MACK 43, BISHOP GUERTIN 30
Nick Theriault (140 pounds), Walter Longley (145), Spencer Damon (189) and Tyler Baulier (215) all recorded pinning wins at their respective weight classes to lead the Tomahawks to victory over the Cardinals at home.
The Christie brothers – Corey (152), Nick (160) and Matt (171) – Cole Fokas (103) and Zach Kemos (112) all recorded pinning wins for BG in defeat.
BOWLING: MERRIMACK TAKES SECOND
Matt Stephens finished with a two-string total of 330 and John Gagne chipped in with a 318 as the Tomahawks finished second behind Pinkerton Academy at Strikers East in Raymond.
The Astros scored four points to the ’Hawks’ two and Raymond’s one, while Souhegan and Sanborn were awarded no points in the meet.
Vikky Hagan (231), Justin Conway (226) and Alex Bull (222) rounded out the scoring for Merrimack, which has totaled 5½ points on the season.
Merrimack takes to the lanes again next Saturday (11 a.m.) at Merrimack Ten Pin against Raymond, Hollis/Brookline, Laconia, Sanborn and Stevens.
JAN. 16
WRESTLING: MERRI-MACK 6TH IN 19-TEAM MEET
Merrimack High School hosted a 19-team wrestling tournament, featuring top teams from around the state and New England, and took sixth place with 93 points. Alvirne finished in 12th place with 35 points.
Winnacunnet of Hampton was the team winner, edging Fairfield Ward, Conn, with 174½ points to 172½. Londonderry was third at 126, Salem was fourth at 125½ and Spaulding, Vt.. with 123½.
Merrimack’s Nick Theriault was the tournament champ at 140 pounds and was also voted the outstanding wrestler of the tourney. Tomahawks teammate Tyler Baulier was the tourney champion at 215.
Alex Cronin took fourth at 119 while Mike Trask was fourth at 125.
HOCKEY: MERRIMACK 5, LEBANON 2
Tyler Caron scored two goals and assisted on two more to lead the Tomahawks over Lebanon at West Side Arena in Manchester.
Corey Eno, Chris Fortin and Erik Glendye scored one goal each in the win, while Glendye and Cal Lezama picked up assists. Brett Glendye made 13 saves in net for the win as Merrimack improved to 5-0.
JAN. 15
BOYS BASKETBALL: MERRIMACK 66, NASHUA NORTH 48
Merrimack used a 12-0 run late in the third quarter to turn a seven-point lead into a blowout, improving to 5-0 on the season, with a comfortable win over Nashua High School North.
Eric Watson led a Merrimack attack with 12 points, Tyler Gendron came off the bench for 11, Anthony Floras had 11 for the winners and Dimitri Floras and Travis Maser had eight each. Matthew Hardwick led the winners with 12 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: NASHUA NORTH 38, MERRIMACK 27
Kyla Gustavson scored a game-high 15 points and Kelly Nolan added 10 to lead the Titans (4-3) to a win over the Tomahawks (2-5) in Nashua.
Lauren Wingate added eight points for North, while Danielle Donahue scored eight points for Merrimack.
JAN. 13
WRESTLING: LONDON-DERRY 33, MERRIMACK 33
Merrimack got an upset victory at 152 pounds from Chris Lafond and a big win at 145 from Walter Longley, but lost the eighth tiebreaker to lose the match with Londonderry.
SKIING: ’HAWKS FINISH IN TOP 15
The Bishop Guertin boys and girls ski teams both finished first at Pat’s Peak in Henniker, but two Merrimack skiers did grab strong individual finishes at the meet.
Merrimack’s Katelyn Ventre was 15th overall in the girls race, finishing in a two-run total time of 1 minute, 14.52 seconds. Tim Perez finished 12th in 1:07.22 on the boys side of things.
JAN. 12
GIRLS BASKETBALL: CENTRAL 45, MERRIMACK 20
The Tomahawks fell to 2-4 in Class L after being blanked 16-0 in the first quarter in Merrimack. Ashley Darling had eight points and Rachael Carter seven to lead the locals.
BOYS BASKETBALL: MERRIMACK 53, CENTRAL 43
Dmitri Floras netted five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points as the visiting Tomahawks raised their record to 4-0 in Class L.
Eric Watson scored 13 and Tyler Gendron scored nine of his 11 points in the first half, after which Merrimack led, 29-18.
