Thursday, May 6, 2010

Mary (Barry) McLaughlin, 81, of Vero Beach, Florida and Nashua, NH, died peacefully at her home, early Monday morning, May 3, 2010, in the presence of her loving husband and children.

Mary was born in Nashua on December 31, 1928, daughter of the late William H. and Dora (McLaughlin) Barry. She married the Honorable Kenneth F. McLaughlin on April 25, 1953 after meeting and falling in love in the 6th grade at the former Sacred Heart School of St. Patrick Church. They continued through their school years together, both graduating from Nashua High School class of 1946. They just recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary with family.

After attending Rivier College, Mary worked as an administrative assistant at the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company in Nashua. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church.

Most important to Mary was spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling with her family over the years throughout the United States and Europe. Mary and her husband enjoyed many peaceful summers on the family ranch in Leon, Iowa and the last 30 years in their home on the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland.

Mary was a wonderful wife and mother and a very special grandmother to her grandchildren who loved her dearly. She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle ways, her spirited sense of humor and her belief in a strong family bond.

Members of her family include her husband, The Honorable Kenneth F. McLaughlin; her four children, Atty. Shane McLaughlin and his wife Christine of Brookline, K. Brian McLaughlin and his wife Linda of Goffstown, Diane M. Whittemore and her husband David, and Sara M. McGee and her husband Jack, all of Merrimack; six grandchildren, Katie Whittemore of Spain, Kyle Whittemore of Colorado, Brendan McGee and Jillian McGee both of Merrimack, Hunter McLaughlin and Tanner McLaughlin both of Goffstown; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Duprey of Madison, NJ and Theresa and Stanley Shostak of Greene, Maine; a sister-in-law, Claire Barry of Milford, NH; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
