BOWLING
Feb. 4: Merrimack finishes third
The Tomahawks finished third in a five-team competition, but the story of the day was Pinkerton Academy in the Baker event, in which five teammates bowl two frames each.
The Astros had nine straight strikes to bowl a state record 279, beating the previous mark, 259, set a week earlier by Merrimack.
In overall scores, Pinkerton finished with 1,721, Goffstown with 1,611, Merrimack had 1,574, Keene 1,438 and Laconia 1,218.
The top scores for two games for Merrimack were posted by Matt Amodio (347), Alex Bull (333), Zach Amondio (310), Tim Morin (293) and Shawn Crement (291).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Feb. 3: Nashua South 42, Merrimack 26
Jackie Gillis and Sarah Voorhis each scored 10 points to lead the Panthers (3-9) to a home win over the Tomahawks (1-11) on Friday. Kate Cole scored a game-high 16 points for Merrimack.
HOCKEY
Feb. 1 Merrimack 4, Dover 1
The Tomahawks improved to 9-3, getting outstanding work on defense from Mark Feeney and Rutger Tupper and 23 saves in net from Brett Glendye.
Dan Valluzzi had a goal and two assists to lead the offense, with single goals from David Downie, Cal Lezama and Connor Powell. Chris Fortin, Powell and Lezama added assists.
Feb. 4: Merrimack 5, Keene 4 (OT)
The Tomahawks needed extra time to beat a tough Keene team. Eric Leszcynski scored the game winning goal on an assist from Connor Powell, (three assists).David Downie, and Cal Lezama each tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Chris Fortin and Mark Feeney each lit the lamp for the Tomahawks. Dom Valluzzi added two assists and Jason Fortin had an assist for Merrimack. Brett Glendye had 28 saves for the Tomahawks who upped their record to 10-3.
WRESTLING
Feb. 6: Merrimack 49, Bishop Guertin 30
RJ Content and Kyle Heidbreder both record pins to lead the Tomahawks to a win Monday against the Cardinals. Content won at 182 points, while Heidreder took the 170 match, to open the dual meet for Merrimack. Also getting wins for the ’Hawks were Zack Pickard (220), Brandon Dine (126) and Elias Kim (145).
Bishop Guertin got pins from Cole Fokas (120), Brandon Levesque (132), Zack Kemos (138), Pat Sands (152) and John Fagan (195).
