2014 scholarship applications available from Bedford Women’s Club

The Bedford Women’s Club presents the Josephine A. Fearon Scholarship for high school seniors who are residents of Bedford.

Educator and president of the Bedford Women’s Club in the mid-’40s, Mrs. F. Lane Fearon established the Bedford Women’s Club Scholarship for high school seniors.

The Bedford Women’s Club also invites Bedford women, not of a traditional age for school and enrolled in a post-secondary degree program, to apply for a scholarship. In the 1990s, the club added a scholarship for non-traditional students to its program.

High school seniors and post-secondary
candidates can apply

The Bedford Women’s Club scholarship applications are now available to high school seniors who are Bedford residents, as well as to Bedford women, who are seeking a post-secondary degree.

Both applications may be found by going to www.bedfordwomensclub.org and clicking on downloads. Application forms are also available at the Bedford Town Offices and the Bedford Public Library.

Seniors are urged to give themselves time to complete each component of the application.

A student should request two references and give each reference time to write a letter showing the student’s uniqueness.

Counselors are a resource to students going through the application process. Applications may be found by going to www.bedford
and clicking on downloads.

Completed applications for scholarships, including attachments, must be received by April 1.

The criteria for a high school senior include scholarship (transcript required), extra-curricular activities, community service and financial need.

Students are urged to check the website of the Bedford Women’s Club to be sure they are completing a current application.

The criteria for women who are non-traditional students include admission to a program in an accredited school, personal statement, financial need, community involvement and work experience.
