Bedford school district names Chip McGee as new Superintendent of Schools

Bedford School Board Chair Terry Wolf announced at the Monday, March 24, School Board meeting that the board has reached agreement with its current assistant superintendent, Dr. Chip McGee, to serve as the district’s superintendent starting on July 1.

“Chip McGee has spent the past 11 years as assistant superintendent here in Bedford leading our efforts in curriculum, assessment and instruction,” Wolf said.

“He played a critical role in the creation of Bedford High School. Before coming to Bedford, he helped found the Beacon School, now noted as one of the best public schools in New York City,” Wolf said.

McGee said, “I am grateful to the School Board and to the entire community for this opportunity. It is an honor to be trusted to lead this superb school system. I have big shoes to fill with the retirement of current Superintendent Tim Mayes. With the support of the board, teachers, parents, students and the community, I hope to keep us moving in a positive direction.”

McGee studied at Brown and Columbia

McGee studied history and education as an undergraduate at Brown University and earned a joint MBA/EdD from Columbia University.

McGee has been instrumental in working with the administration and professional staff to improve curriculum and instruction throughout the district.

Curriculum committee

He chaired the Bedford High School Curriculum Research Committee prior to the opening of the new school in 2007. The committee investigated best practices in secondary education and provided a blueprint for how Bedford High School’s curriculum and instruction should be organized and delivered.

Last June, Bedford High School was selected as the New Hampshire Secondary School of Excellence.

McGee has been recognized by his peers in New Hampshire as one of the leading educators in the region.

He was recognized in 2009 by the New Hampshire School Administrators Association. He received their coveted Annual Service award.
