Give them a hive five: Graduates complete Bee School

Bedford members of the Gauthier family, Shea Gauthier, 13, a seventh-grader at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School, Elise Gauthier, 16, a sophomore at Bedford High School, and their father, Scott Gauthier, are recent graduates from Bee School 2015.

Bee School is a six-session educational event hosted annually by the non-profit Merrimack Valley Beekeepers Assoc., one of seven statewide groups comprised of novice and professional beekeepers.

Shea noted the family’s longtime interest in nature as the motivator to take the classes. The trio joined around 100 other students seeking to learn more about the ancient science of beekeeping.

Nearly a dozen expert instructors taught the classes, gatherings that also featured exhibits, videos and a wealth of printed materials, along with a grand raffle at the final assembly.

The MVBA Bee School of 2015 began March 3 with classes held on six consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 646 Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack.
