Bedford household hazardous waste collection set for Saturday
A household hazardous waste day will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Bedford Highway Garage, 19 Chubbuck Road.
This is for Bedford residents only. Your vehicle must have a valid transfer station sticker to participate.
Common items accepted include oil-based paint, stains, spray paints, paint thinners, pesticides, cleaning solvents, lighter fluids, wood preservatives, mothballs, oven cleaner and pool chemicals.
Items not accepted are asbestos, explosives (ammunition), radioactive materials and road flares.
These items may be dropped off at the transfer station on a regular basis: latex paints, used motor oil, antifreeze, household batteries and car batteries.
This is only a partial list of acceptable items.
If you are unsure about acceptable items, stop by the transfer station and speak with supervisor Jerome Spooner.
Upon entering the town garage, do not remove the waste from your vehicle. An attendant will verify if it is acceptable, and if so, he or she will remove it from your vehicle.
The town reserves the right to reject any liquid, material or substance.
For more information, call Spooner at 472-4563.
