Healthy Families aids New Horizons
BEDFORD – Staff members from New Hampshire Healthy Families originally aimed to collect 250 food items for New Horizons Food Pantry during a recent employee appreciation event.
When all the canned goods and non-perishable items were counted, the employees had doubled their goal and contributed more than 500 items for the Manchester shelter. The food will go to New Hampshire residents who utilize the programs and services offered by New Horizons.
In addition, New Hampshire Healthy Families donated $1,500 to New Horizons, since its approximately 100 employees collected twice their goal.
“Giving our employees the opportunity to give back to their community while celebrating their accomplishments is just a small way New Hampshire Healthy Families is focused on improving our communities. Opportunities like this give our staff a sense of accomplishment aside from day-to-day work activities,” said Jay Gonzalez, President and CEO of New Hampshire Healthy Families.
“We are proud to be donating our canned goods and financial assistance to New Horizons, an organization that provides programs and services to our state’s most vulnerable individuals and families.”
New Horizons for New Hampshire is a soup kitchen, food pantry and emergency shelter located at 199 Manchester Street and Angie’s for Women. The mission of New Horizons is to provide food and shelter to people in need and offer supportive services to achieve health and self-sufficiency.
Annually, the soup kitchen serves 98,000 meals, the food pantry distributes 13,000 bags of food to over 900 children and families per month and the shelters provide safe haven for over 80 adults each night.
“We are honored to have the support of New Hampshire Healthy Families” commented Charlie Sherman, Executive Director of New Horizons for New Hampshire. “The summer months are trying times for New Horizons and this assistance will help us feed families and individuals in need in our soup kitchen and food pantry.”
