5K race, 2-mile fun run set for Sept. 12

MANCHESTER – The second annual Fun Fall Frolic will start at 10 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Manchester on Sept. 12.

In addition to the 5K race competitors, the 2-mile fun run will feature teams from Boys & Girls Clubs from around the state representing over 28,000 school aged children.

"This is an outstanding event for the whole family to come out and get a little exercise, support our youth development programs and see our club kids enthusiastically race through the streets of downtown Manchester," Richard Lowney, president of the New Hampshire Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, said in a statement.

"We are really excited about our involvement with this event. It is a perfect tie in with our efforts at the clubs. Healthy Lifestyles and community service are large parts of our programming at the clubs and this event gives our members a unique opportunity to do both. The kids are very excited about working hard in preparing for a fun event in their home state. We hope that everyone will come out to this event, and enjoy the flat, fun course at whatever speed they choose," Lowney said.

The corporate partner responsible for organizing and sponsoring the event is Cross Insurance. Cross Insurance has brought the business community together including lead event sponsor Arbella Insurance to support Boys & Girls Clubs throughout New Hampshire.

"Partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs provides a triple benefit in the community, children have a nurturing place to go when school is out, families have professional assistance in raising their children and employers have a community resource available to their employees," said Christopher Sharpe, president at Cross Insurance, Manchester.

The race, organized by TI-Fitness, starts promptly at 10 a.m. for the 5k and the 2-mile. Packet pick-up as well as race day registration opens at 8 a.m.

There are prizes for the top male and female masters and overall finishers.

Following the Fun Fall Frolic, Veterans Park will be host to festivities including a flash mob, Fire Department displays, stage performances, and family fun activities.

Registration for the Fun Fall Frolic is now open and participants can register on-line or by mail. For more race information or to register, visit www.funfallfrolic.com.
