Beaver Brook Fall Festival & Art Show has special attractions

HOLLIS – The Beaver Brook Association invites the public to its 35th annual Fall Festival & Art Show, where artwork by dozens of regional artists will be on display from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 26-27, at Maple Hill Farm, 117 Ridge Road.

The featured artist is Denise Rainis, of Dunstable, Mass.

The festival is the signature annual event of the Beaver Brook Association. As well as the display of artwork, there will be activities of interest for all age groups.

Activities include a silent auction and raffle table filled with prizes.

The Maple Hill Gardeners will sell original arrangements and wreaths made from the dried harvest of their gardens. There will be nature crafts for children, live music, a petting zoo, a beekeeping demonstration and a maple sugaring demonstration.

The day is packed with fun things for everyone and includes garden tours and guided hikes. There are many opportunities to get up close and personal with animals and nature.

On Sept. 26, Julie Collier and Jim Parks of Wingmasters will present "Live Birds of Prey" from 2-2:50 p.m. and 4-4:50 p.m. Wingmasters is "dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey," and this will be a wonderful opportunity to see a presentation of live birds of prey in a calm atmosphere that promotes learning.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Wildlife Encounters will offer a live animal show featuring a selection of amazing animals that you may never have encountered before.

On Sunday, Eyes on Owls will make presentations from 1-2 and 3-4 p.m. Everyone will participate in a hooting lesson and learn tips on how to attract and protect owls near you.

While the selection of live owls varies, chances are you will meet New England’s tiniest owl, the northern saw-whet owl – weighing in at 4 ounces – along with the world’s largest owl, the Eurasian eagle owl – check out that 5-foot wingspan. Other species that figure prominently in the program include the eastern screech owl, barred owl, barn owl, great-horned owl, snowy owl and spectacled owl.
