SUNDAY CONCERT SERIES

Upcoming concerts in the Sunday Concert Series hosted by the Friends of the Library are Random Acts of Harmony on Nov. 1, William Ogmundson on Dec. 6, Hiroya Tsukamato (guitar) on Feb. 7, Neiho (Irish harp) on March 6, Reunion Trio with Paul B. on April 3 and The Blue Sky Boys on May 1. Concerts, held 2-4:30 p.m., are free thanks to a grant from the Bedford Library Foundation.

AUTHOR FEATURED AT LIBRARY FALL GALA

Andre Dubus III, author of six books, including "The House of Sand and Fog," will be the featured speaker at the Bedford Library Foundation’s Fall Gala, held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 1. Event will include wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $25 and are available at the library’s front desk.

ONLINE ACCESS TO MOVIES, MUSIC

The Bedford Public Library has availability to thousands of movies, TV shows, music albums and audiobooks for mobile and online access through a partnership with hoopla digital. Card holders can download the free hoopla digital mobile app or visit hoopladigital.com to begin enjoying thousands of titles for instant streaming or temporary downloading to their smartphones, tablets and computers.

THURSDAY THEATER IN THE LIBRARY

Come to the Bedford Public Library on the second Thursday of the month to watch a recent movie in Blu-ray on the big screen. There are two showings: 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Popcorn will be provided. Free. Registration required. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

SCRABBLE, ANYONE?

Join other word game enthusiasts at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.

ONLINE LANGUAGE LEARNING

The language learning service Transparent Language Online is available through the Bedford Public Library’s website. Use audio and visual tools to learn essential phrases, specific words and even a foreign alphabet in your language of choice. The program can also be used on your smartphone to learn on the go.

E-BOOK SERVICE

The 3M Cloud Library includes the latest best-sellers for kids, teens and adults, as well as a good selection of nonfiction which your librarians have chosen for you. The new service can be searched through the library’s online catalog, where you can check out or place a hold on a title. Then, simply open the 3M Cloud Library app on a reader, tablet, computer or smart phone & the book is available for reading. The library staff thanks the Samuel P. Hunt Foundation and the Bedford Library Foundation for contributing funding for this new service.

E-BOOKS FOR KIDS

"E-Books for e-Kids" has animated talking picture books, including books to learn French, Spanish and other languages, plus puzzles and games.

CRIBBAGE, ANYONE?

If you’d like to play or learn to play cribbage, drop in from 2-3 p.m. Mondays. This friendly group meets weekly in the Lowell Room upstairs.

ONGOING ADULT PROGRAMS

The Merrimack Public Library offers Knit, Stitch or Crochet from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays; drop-in tech help (make an appointment with a librarian); a monthly book discussion group that meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month; a French Conversation Group that meets 1-2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month; a music catalog; an online newsstand; and Kindle library books. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS GAMING NIGHT

The Merrimack Public library and Merrymac Games & Comics bring you a Dungeons & Dragons gaming night from 7-8:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Join other gamers for a fun-filled evening. No registration required.

MUSEUM PASSES AVAILABLE

Are you looking for great places to visit? The Merrimack Library has 14 museum passes available for cardholders. Some passes provide free admission, while others provide a discounted admission. Passes can be reserved online, in person or by phone at 424-5021. Visit the website for information about the passes and links to each museum.

Programs for kids

PAWS TO READ WITH RUBY

Children ages 4 and older, as well as teens, adults and everyone in between, who would like to practice their reading skills can read to Ruby, a certified therapy dog. We will have reading materials available, but you are welcome to bring your favorite choice. Need to practice reading aloud in a foreign language? That’s fine, too. To reserve a 20-minute time slot, register online or call 424-5021. Use an adult Merrimack Library card to register.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

A 45-minute school-readiness class with a weekly theme for preschoolers ages 3 and older will include reading picture books, making crafts or playing simple games. These activities are designed to teach children listening comprehension skills, letter and shape recognition, and new vocabulary words, as well as improve gross and fine motor skills and introduce helpful social skills. This session runs from 10:15-11 a.m. Mondays through Nov. 24 and is open to Merrimack Library cardholders. No registration is required.

ONGOING CHILDREN’S AND TEEN PROGRAMS

A Comics Club Book Group for grades 5-10 meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month; Advanced Beginners Book Group, for ages 6-8 with an adult, meets 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month; the Junior Book Club, for ages 7 and older, meets 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month; Book Voyages, for first- and second-graders, meets at 4 p.m. on the second Thursdays of the month.
