School to host ‘Winter Chiller’ race
WILTON – The Monadnock Regional Milers running club will host a 4-mile race for all ages and abilities at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at High Mowing School.
The "Winter Chiller" race is the second in a six-run series hosted by the Peterborough-based Milers to promote winter recreation and camaraderie for cold-weather runners and walkers.
"It’s hard to stay motivated in winter," club member Ginger Smith said about exercising. "Our goal is to make it fun."
Smith said she expects 40 or 50 runners and walkers Saturday, from 7-year-old beginners to marathoners in their 70s.
The race will begin at the school, 222 Isaac Frye Highway at the top of Abbot Hill, and follow Mason and Badger Farm roads in a loop ending back at the school.
A $5 registration will be collected beginning at 8 a.m. and nonperishable food items are being gathered for donation to local food pantries. Coffee and refreshments will be served at the end of the race, and prizes for best male and female time and participation will be awarded.
Participants are advised to use traction aids and dress appropriately when running in the cold.
