Members First celebrates opening of Bedford branch

MANCHESTER – Members First Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Bedford recently. The branch is located at 136 Bedford Center Road, off Route 101. Members First Credit Union’s founder John Walsh lived nearby on Bedford Center Road for many years.

The credit union’s board of directors, senior management, staff, business members and local business owners officially opened the branch with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event included remarks by Bruce Leighton, president and CEO of Members First Credit Union; Paul Beaudoin, chairman of the institution’s board of directors; representatives of Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte, who read letters of congratulations from the senators; and Mary Macdonald, credit union business member and owner of the Meredith-based culinary incubator, Genuine Local.

"Members First Credit Union was first established in 1949 as the Manchester Municipal Employees Credit Union by firefighter John Walsh, who lived in Bedford," Leighton said. "Now, 67 years later, we have two full service branches in Manchester and this new branch in Bedford. Since opening our doors here a little over a month ago, we have received a tremendous response. We are excited to be in Bedford and look forward to being a part of the community."

Mary Macdonald, owner of Genuine Local, said, "Gavin and I were fortunate to work with Members First when we opened our first business, which was a small barbecue catering company. With Genuine Local, Members First was flexible and attentive to our needs in helping us launch this next phase of our dream. We would not have been able to do it without them."

The new location will serve Bedford and surrounding communities. For more information, visit
