Lions Club to collect medical supplies for quake victims

BEDFORD – The Bedford Lions Club has announced plans to begin a special collection of medical supplies and orthopedic equipment for the victims of the April earthquake in Ecuador. Mike Sills of the BLC said the club started the program in 2010 for the victims of the Haitian earthquake and has continued to this day. In the process, the BLC has collected over 2,000 devices and boxes of medical supplies for the victims of natural disasters in Haiti, the Philippines, Nepal, and the Ebola epidemic in Africa.

Sills asked to please help by donating the following items to the Bedford Lions Campaign to aid the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador. These items are urgently needed by the Ecuadorians hurt and displaced by the April earthquake. Our Lions Club is working through the Quito Lions Club and AFYA, an international NGO based in Yonkers, N.Y., who does the shipping and distribution. The BLC has had a special relationship with the Quito Lions Club by donating used eyeglasses to them for several years and so the current Earthquake Relief project represents a real increase in what we can do for them. Because of the urgency we would like to start making deliveries within the next month.

Check out the Bedford Lions Club website at for more information. To make a donation, deposit the item in collection box or send an email to or contact Mike or Claire Sills at 472-5516.
