Construction begins on Wallace Road South

BEDFORD – Phase 1 of the Wallace Road South reconstruction project began Monday, May 16.

Wallace Road South will be closed to all through vehicles between the Bedford-Merrimack town line north to Beals Road in Bedford. A barricade has been placed at the town line.

"The objective of the project is to make Wallace Road a smoother, safer travel way for motorists and other users," Bedford Town Engineer Jeff Foote said.

Motorists will be directed to detour around the work zone from Wallace Road to Beals Road to Jenkins Road/Bedford Road to Wire Road to Wallace Road.

Phase 1 is tentatively scheduled for completion on June 24.

Foote said the Wallace Road South reconstruction project will improve 12,700 lineal feet of Wallace Road from just south of Route 101 to the Bedford-Merrimack town line.

Project objectives include drainage and shoulder width improvements. Safety upgrades include guard rail replacements and intersection site distance improvements at Hancock Drive, Beals Road, Meadow Road, Wiggin Road, Candy Lane, Brick Mill Road and County Road West.

The town of Bedford prohibits through trucking on Wallace Road and Jenkins Road.
