Lurgio Middle School celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Lurgio Middle School celebrated its 10th annual Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-31. This year’s campaign slogan was "YOLO so… be drug free." Members of the Students Against Destructive Decisions club made and distributed flyers and red ribbons to all teachers and their classrooms. SADD also organized the following activities throughout the week.

During lunches, middle school students were asked to design posters titled " I am a (musician, athlete, writer, awesome person) and I don’t do drugs." The kids then found the poster(s) that fit their personalities and took the pledge, signing their names to the posters.

SADD students used post-it notes on lockers to offer positive messages to each of the almost 800 students.

Our school cafeteria has over 700 red ribbons on the bulletin board. Each red ribbon was signed by a middle school student and offers a sense of community to all the kids who take drug prevention seriously.

As a fundraiser, the SADD group sold silicone bracelets with positive messages such as "Lurgio Thinks First," "Peace and Kindness," "Lead by Example."

A banner titled "Think About it… Own Your Choices" was signed by nearly every student and will be hung in the cafeteria.

If you get a chance to stop by the school, come down to the cafeteria and check out the commitment… it’ll be there all year. So many students participated in making the drug free commitment and not only understand but also engage in our community’s prevention efforts. Way to go Lurgio!
