Nicholas Cannone, a senior at Bedford High School, is assisting Honor Flight New England through his Senior Project. Honor Flight New England is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to sending our nation’s veterans to Washington D.C. free of charge.

Nicholas has been raising funds and awareness for Honor Flight over the past few months, and will conclude his Senior Project by attending the flight on April 30.

The flights, which are day trips that occur a few times per year, begin early in the morning. Sixty veterans, each with their “guardian,” arrive at the airport and are greeted by crowds of people before boarding the flight to Baltimore. Buses transport the group to Washington D.C. where various monuments are visited along with Arlington National Cemetery. The day concludes with the return flight back to Manchester.

This is truly a life changing experience for all those involved. The veterans are treated like the heroes that they truly are for a day – whether it be the police escorts around Washington D.C. or the water cannons shot over the airplane on the runway upon arrival to Baltimore.

If you are or know a veteran of World War II or Korea who would be interested in this program, please contact Honor Flight New England at honorflightnewengland@gmail.com. If you would like more information about this organization or would like to donate, please call Nick at 714-9955 or Honor Flight New England at 518-5368.
