Car flips multiple times in Mont Vernon morning accident; driver hurt

MONT VERNON – A Wilton woman was injured Monday morning when her vehicle rolled over several times about a half mile north of the Mont Vernon General Store.

Brenda Stitham, 65, of Wilton, was traveling north on North Main Street near Cotton Place on Nov. 4, behind a truck driven by Mark Bilodeau, 51, of New Boston, when her car crashed into the rear of Bilodeau’s pickup truck and swerved off the road, rolling over several times before coming to rest on the roof.

Shawn Caswell, who lives at 96 North Main St., near the accident scene, said he had taken his child to the school bus, which stops in front of his property, at about 8:20 a.m., when he saw a pickup truck stop for the bus and then the car that was following behind the truck turn over “at least three times.”

Caswell said he got the woman out of her seat belt and helped her out of the car because it was leaking fluids.

Bilodeau, who was not injured, said that as soon as he stopped for the school bus, the car behind him clipped the rear of his truck on its right side and then “I saw it flip once or twice.”

Police said Stitham was taken to a local hospital by the Amherst Emergency Medical Service.
