Lyndeborough’s tax rate to increase

LYNDEBOROUGH – The new property tax rate is $24 per $1,000 of assessed value, up 50 cents from last year.

Selectmen decided last week to use enough of the town’s surplus to “make the increase an even 50 cents,” according to Acting Town Administrator Burton Reynolds.

The largest increase is in the local school portion, $13.46, up from $12.38 from the current rate.

The other portions of the tax rate are down a little: Town portion is $7.06, down from $7.48; state school $2.41, down from $2.50, and county tax is $1.13, down one penny.

School increases are due to new contracts plus, repairs and maintenance, and added $71,000 in health insurance costs.

Tax bills have been mailed and are due on Dec. 16.
