Saturday is holiday fair day in Milford, Amherst and Wilton

For shoppers who like to go to the malls, the holiday season started last weekend. But for everyone who shops locally, it starts Saturday when churches, schools and other organizations host their holiday fairs.

In Amherst, the fun actually starts Friday evening with Tree Light-Up Night on the Village Green at 6:30 p.m. and then a Lion’s Club spaghetti supper from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Congregational Church. No reservations are needed and donations are accepted.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Lions will have their craft fair at Amherst Middle School, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

In Milford, there are 11 fairs on Saturday if you count the Winter Farmers Market in Town Hall from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and the Alene Candle Sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Riverway East (behind the Milford House of Pizza) to benefit the Boys and Girls Club and SHARE.

On Saturday night, Milford lights its Christmas tree on the Oval at 6 p.m., with caroling by the Souhegan Valley Chorus. The chorus will sing holiday music again on Sunday, at 6 p.m., in the Souhegan High School auditorium, with special guest, the Milford High School Band.

Amherst children can see Santa on Saturday at the Amherst Area Newcomers breakfast from 9-11 a.m. or from 3-5 p.m. at the Amherst Street fire station,

Then, he’s off to see children the Milford Oval on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., sponsored by the Milford Lions Club.

Two Wilton fairs

Shops at the Pine Valley Mill, 37 Wilton Road, will hold a Holiday Creative Craft Fair and Open House from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7.

And the 37th annual Pine Hill Waldorf School Holiday Fair will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the school, 77 Pine Hill Drive, Wilton.

Friday evening is a shopping event for adults. Browse and shop New England artisans’ crafts and silent auction. Enjoy the dessert cafe and live musicians while shopping. On Saturday, there will be a circus-themed raffle. Saturday is open to the whole family and features a variety of seasonal activities, children’s crafts, storytelling, puppet shows and circus performances.
