Mont Vernon police can’t determine who dumped garbage on conservation land
MONT VERNON – Police say there were too many names in a large load of trash someone emptied on conservation land for them to determine who actually did the dumping.
Mont Vernon Road Agent Mike Ypya said he and his crew recently spent one and a half hours picking up and sorting garbage on the Purgatory Road parking area of the Wah Lum Reserve, using a backhoe and a dump truck and then taking it to the town transfer station.
There were name on mail items in the trash, said Mont Vernon Police Sgt. Aaron Daigneault, but “we couldn’t tie it to one person, place or town.”
This kind of illegal dumping is not uncommon, he said, “and if we can determine where the trash came from,” police can prosecute.
