One dead in Wednesday crash on Route 101 bypass in Milford
MILFORD – The driver of a 2006 Toyota Highlander was killed the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 18, when the vehicle collided with a pickup truck on the Route 101 bypass, police said.
The victim, whose name police didn’t release as of Wednesday night, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. They said the driver of the 2001 Chevy pickup, Richard A. Benotti, 78, of Temple, was uninjured.
The accident occurred just after 10 a.m. east of the Perry Road overpass, which is toward the western end of the bypass about a half-mile from the intersection of Route 101A.
Police said the Highlander was headed west on the bypass when it crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane and into the path of the pickup truck.
They said the pickup struck the Highlander on the passenger side, and both vehicles came to rest off the eastbound side of the bypass.
Police said neither speed nor alcohol appear to have contributed to the accident.
The bypass was closed for about four hours Wednesday afternoon as the Milford Police Department’s Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit conducted an investigation.
The TAR Unit continues to investigate the circumstances, including what caused the vehicle to drift over the center line.
Police ask anyone who has any information about the crash to contact Milford police pat 249-0630.
